COMMANDER: Those who have served and those currently serving in the uniformed services of the United States are ever mindful that the sweetness of enduring peace has always been tainted by the bitterness of personal sacrifice. COMMANDER: Today’s Guest Speaker is Mr. Cliff Meyer from Georgetown, Delaware. He will be speaking about ship and boat covers (envelopes).

< GUEST SPEAKER >

Cliff Meyer gave us his presentation about the intricacies of and how large & wide ranging this hobby of ship covers is. Because of that, when he decided to get interested in collecting covers for navy ships he had to downsize his collecting to just submarines.
One of his statements, that all ships, submarines included had post offices on them….was loudly & immediately challenged by just about every sub sailor present and that was all of us. After the meeting I asked him to show me the cancellation for my old boat, USS Sirago SS485, it didn’t have a post office. So score one for us. I don’t know for certain if that applies to any of the boomers, but I didn’t hear anything to the contrary. Maybe the big Trident class boats had them, but I didn’t ask.
