December Regular Meeting

December 17, 2005

Sheraton Hotel, Dover, DE

Commander Charlie Dauphin called the December Regular meeting to order at 1150 with 62 members and guests in attendance. All personnel in attendance stood for the invocation by Chaplain Bill Galloway.

The membership remained standing as Vice Commander Roy Anstead read the USSVI Creed.

The Tolling of the Boats was completed as various members of the base read the names of all of the Lost Boats by the months of their loss. Chief of the Boat Chuck Walker tolled the bell with the reading of the name of each boat. The Tolling of the Boats completed with Vice Commander Roy Anstead reading the Lost Boats for December.

The membership remained standing as Chief of the Boat Ed Simpson led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The membership was seated. Recognition was given to members who are veterans of the Second World War, Korea, Vietnam, and all subsequent hostile actions including the cold war. Special recognition was given to members of the Holland Club who stood to be recognized by the membership.

The Chief of the Boat sounded Dive.

The reading of the minutes of the last meeting was bypassed and the minutes were accepted as published.

As has been the custom for the past six years, there was an abbreviated business meeting to leave more time for the Christmas Party. All business of consequence was tabled until the January Regular Meeting.

The Chaplain presented a report on the funeral service for Base Member John Matheus. John passed away suddenly in November. Thirteen base members attended John's service and rendered honors to John and his family.

The Commander recognized and introduced Tom Conlon, USSVI National Commander. Commander Conlon took the podium and presented Senior Submariner Certificate to eight members in attendance. Roy Anstead, Bill Galloway, John Grohowski, Tom Massey, Darden Rodden, Walt Rutter, Ed Updike, and Chuck Walker each received certificates. Another base member, Charlie Cooper, is eligible for a certificate, but was unable to attend the meeting.

Commander Dauphin presented a Recognition plaque to Chief of the Boat Chuck Walker for all of his hard work for the Base. Chuck attends every meeting, all of the base public outreach functions, and routinely provides updates to the base on various veterans affairs.

The next meeting will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 1130 hours at the Dover Sheraton Hotel.

Chaplain Galloway led the membership in a closing prayer. There being no further business, the Chief of the Boat sounded Surface and the meeting adjourned at 1215.
